Troigue is an ambiguous, intermediate gender that is the product of the blending of qualities common to gender masculinity and gender femininity, which is expressed through subversion of the gender binary and genderf*ckery.[1]
Etymology
From French, “Trois”, meaning “Three” + “-igue”, an English neologistic suffix indicating gender ambiguity[2]. The use of the word “Trois” is an allusion to the term “Neutrois”, literally meaning “Neuter Third”. The suffix “-igue” is borrowed from the term “Ambigue”, describing a purely ambiguous gender.[3]
Characteristics
Troigue can be categorized as all of the following:
- Amingender (Ambiguous-In-Nature)
- Lingender (Androgynous-In-Nature; L from Male/Female or Masculinity/Feminility)
- Venngender (Intersection of Masculinity and Femininity)
- (Self-Categorization as a) “Third Gender” (Aliagender)
- Midbinary (Midbingender)
- Genderqueer/Nonbinary
- Genderf*ck/Genderpunk
- Gender Dissident (Dissigender)
