    Transmasculine or trans-masc is a gender identity where one was assigned female at birth, but identifies mostly as a man or another masculine gender(s). For example feeling mostly masculine and partially feminine is still an example of trans-masculinity. Trans masculine people are sometimes called FtM or F2M (female to male).

    Transmasculine is sometimes used, not as a gender identity, but as a way to describe anyone who is assigned female at birth and undergoes masculinization, either through surgery, hormones replacement therapy, or other methods (example: cross dressing) . Under this definition women who take testosterone to attempt to appear more masculine would be considered transmasculine.

    The feminine equivalent to transmasculine is transfeminine and the neutral equivalent is transneutral.
