This design for the bisexual pride flag has been used all the way until the present day, where bisexuals frequently use this design on their online accounts and message boards to notify people of their identity.
The bisexual umbrella
Bisexuality can be thought of as an umbrella term, or as its own identity. Since bisexuality means attracted to more than one gender, polysexuality means attracted to more than one gender but not all of them, omnisexuality means attracted to all genders, and pansexuality means attracted to people regardless of gender, it follows that the latter three identities all also fall under the broader definition of "attracted to at least two genders" AKA "attracted to more than one gender," which is how bisexuality is defined. This is what people mean when they speak about the bisexual umbrella.
For example, omnisexuals also fall under the definition of bisexuals, but not all bisexuals are omnisexuals. However, some people like to be more specific than "bi," or personally don't identify with the term "bi."
Other words that define the umbrella of people attracted to more than one gender include: Pluralian, Multisexual, and M-Spec (multisexual spectrum).
History of bisexuality
Etymology
The Greek prefix bi- means 'two'.
The Greek prefix bi- means "two." Please note that this does not mean that bisexuality is confined to two genders: the "two" can refer to the idea of "both my gender and genders that are not my own."
