Selenian is a subset of lunarian that describes a non-binary individual who is woman-aligned (or female-aligned, girl-aligned, or gal-aligned) or otherwise has a connection to womanhood. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Those who are partially women.
- Those who are connected to womanhood without necessarily being a woman.
- Someone whose gender experiences are similar to that of a woman.
Selenian only specifies that one is woman-aligned, one does not necessarily have to be feminine-aligned (artemian) as well.
The male equivalent is helian.
History
Selenian was coined by Tumblr user Neopronouns on February 9, 2021.[1] The term was created because lunarian encompasses a wide spectrum of identities, including both female-aligned identities and feminine-aligned identities. Selenian was created as a subset of lunarian for those who want to further specify that they are woman-aligned (and may or may not be feminine-aligned).
