Romance-averse is a romance stance that describes an individual who is repulsed by the idea of personally engaging in romantic activity. The term is commonly used by aromantic spectrum individuals, but is not exclusive to this community or romantic orientation.
Romance-averse individuals may find the idea of personally engaging in romantic activity undesirable, uninteresting, uncomfortable, or generally unwanted. They do not feel the same way about romantic interaction that does not involve themselves, and may feel favorable or indifferent towards romantic interaction as a concept. Romance-averse individuals may be fine with or interested in discussing romantic topics or consuming romantic media.
Some individuals may be repulsed by certain romantic acts, while feeling favorable or indifferent towards other romantic acts. The term romance-ambivalent may be used to describe this experience.
