The original term was coined by an unknown person, but the flag was designed on July 31, 2016 by Pride-Flags on DeviantArt. The second, more elaborate definition for the term puzzlegender was coined by wiki user EnbyDuckling on February 12th, 2021.
The puzzleboy, puzzlegirl, and puzzlenonbinary flags were all designed by Pride-Flags on DeviantArt on September 17, 2016.
