Neuproche refers to a gender expression that is neutral or epicene, despite having a gender that is not. A neuproche individual can have any alignment, they are not necessarily neutral-aligned/stellarian. For example, a man or woman who has some connection to gender neutrality may identify as neuproche. A masculine, feminine or androgyne aligned non-binary individual who presents neutrally may also identify as neuproche. It is an identity where one's gender non-conformity is an integral part of one's queer experience.
Neuproche is also occasionally used as a synonym for juxtaneu.[1]
The masculine equivalent is homproche, the feminine equivalent femproche, and androgynous equivalent linproche.
Etymology
The word neuproche is inspired by the terms "homproche" and "femproche". Neu comes from the English word "neutral", while proche is a French word that means "near". Together, these terms come together to mean "near or approaching neutrality".
