Gyneromantic, or gynoromantic, is a term with several possible definitions. First, is the romantic attraction to women. This means that heteroromantic men, homoromantic women, and non-binary people attracted to women can be considered gyneromantics. The second possible definition is the attraction to people who present femininely, regardless of their actual gender. Thirdly, is the attraction only to people with "female anatomy" regardless of whether that person identifies as female, however this definition is transphobic as it reduces people to their genitals.

The term was possibly made with non-binary or genderqueer people in mind. However, many non-binary people prefer other terms like finromantic, venusic, or womaromantic to describe this attraction, because gyneromantic has no consistant definition and can have unfavorable connotations. The term is based on gynesexual, which is commonly used by transphobes as a reason to exclude trans women because they are only attracted to "female anatomy" or "real women".

    The sexual equivalent is gynesexual.

    Flag

The gyneromantic flag was made by pronouns.page. It was likely made to resemble the format of the other romantic flags.

The alternate flag was created by ThatOneKnows on December 12, 2020. The top white stripe represents non-binary and genderless identities. The three middle stripes represent women and femininity. The top purple stripe represents people who present femininity regardless of gender. The middle pink stripe represents people who are feminine-aligned. The bottom red stripe represents people who identify as women. The bottom orange stripe represents men, people who are masculine-aligned, and masculinity regardless of gender.

    Etymology

The prefix 'gyne-' comes from the prefix 'gyneco-' which is a derivative of 'gynaeco-'. 'Gynaeco-' comes from the Greek word gunaikós which means 'woman, female'.

The prefix 'gyno-' comes from the Greek word gunḗ which means 'of or pertaining to women'.
