Greygender (also spelled Graygender) is a gender in which one identifies partially outside the gender binary and has a strong ambivalence about their gender identity and/or gender expression. One is not entirely without a gender, or without a gender expression, but they’re not entirely "with" it either. They feel as though they have a gender, or genders, and have an inclination or desire to express it, however they may experience feelings including but not limited to:

    1. One's feeling of gender is weak.
    2. One's feeling of gender is indeterminate or indefinable.
    3. One doesn't experience the feeling of gender most of the time.
    4. One is not invested in their gender or in the concept of gender.

Greygender is the state of being close to agender but not quite. One has a non-binary gender that falls in a grey area that can be hard to define or pinpoint. One may identify as being gender neutral, but more because of ambivalence and lack of participation in gender rather than active participation in non-binary gender expression. They may also feel ambivalence and lack an inclination to participate in the concept of gender as a whole.

Greygender was coined by Tumblr user Invernom on March 20, 2014.[1] The flag was created on or before August 23, 2015 in a post that is now deleted.[2] The color meanings are as follows: Grey represents the spectrum of experiences this identity covers, since different greygender people might feel gender to a lesser or greater degree. Blue represents greygender as an identity and experience, the creator thought of it in terms of deep ocean water- it’s calm but has a subtle fluidity and variation. Because it’s darker deep below the surface it’s harder to determine what’s going on in it, but it’s still beautiful and full of interesting and mysterious things. White represents the purity and validity of greygender people and their experiences.
