Transintersex is an offensive and intersexist term used by some perisex individuals who desire a mixed genital set. The term is rejected by most of the LGBTQ+ community due to it's implication that one can transition to being intersex, and terms like salmacian and bigenital are encouraged to be used instead.

    History

The term was first created by Tumblr user angel2049 for perisex individuals who "felt" intersex.[1] The most popular transintersex flag was later created by Tumblr user radqueerfluff on September 16th, 2023.[2] As the term gained popularity, many intersex individuals spoke out about the harm in the label, and encouraged the use of altersex terms instead.[3] Despite this, many doubled down on the use of the label, particularly those in the radqueer community.

    Reclamation

Some intersex individuals have reclaimed the term, making it an exclusively intersex term and changing the meaning. Tumblr user satyrradio created a flag for intersex individuals that reclaim transintersex on July 25th, 2024, and defined it as a "trans & intersex individual who reclaims their being intersex as part of their transition."[4] Another reclaimed flag was created by Tumblr user genderstarbucks for individuals that are both intersex and trans.[5] Furthermore, many intersex trans individuals have made an effort to claim the term through simply using hashtags associated with it for themselves.[6]
