Proxygender is a gender for someone who feels as if they have a strong connection with gender, or a strong connection with the idea of gender, but either do not have the will, or the ability to pursue or to find out what that gender is. The term proxy- would refer to the gender that the person believes they connect with.
Proxygender could also possibly be confused with quoigender, with the main defining difference being that one does feel as if they have a gender, or relate to the concept of gender, however unwilling they are to figure it out.
History and Flag
The term was coined by Taylor from the Discord account Luwuna, also known as Deer Garden System, on June 7, 2021, along with its corresponding flag. The pink, purple, and blue stripes on the flag represent possible masculine, feminine, or non-binary identities that one could identify as, and the grey stripe in the middle represents uncertainty, or unwillingness to choose or find out possible gender identities. The colors on the flag are slightly muted or desaturated, to show that a feeling of gender may not be vibrant, but still exists.
