NFTgender is a xenogender that involves one's gender being affected in some way by non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are non-interchangeable receipts stored with blockchain that point to digital files and have controversy surrounding them.[1]
Examples of why an individual might identify with NFTgender include (but are not limited to):
- One's gender changes or fluctuates when thinking about or looking at NFTs.
- One's gender has been influenced or affected by experiences with NFTs in some form.
- One wishes to incorporate NFTs into one's gender identity in a reclaiming way.
- One's gender is otherwise influenced by or related to NFTs in some form.
History
The term was originally coined by a Twitter user who defined it as being for individuals "who have a strong connection to NFTs," according to a screenshot posted on the exclusionist subreddit r/xenogendercringe.[2] The term was later recoined in a reclaiming manner by FANDOM user HaiFire3344 on December 31, 2021.[3]
Flag
A flag was made for the original coining of NFTgender, featuring two yellow stripes, two light grayish green stripes, and a white stripe in the middle. The colors have no known meanings. The recoining of NFTgender does not currently have a flag.
