Lunagender, also known as monagender, monegender, or selenogender, is a type of genderfluid identity in which one's gender changes in a consistent repeating cycle, comparable to the phases of the moon. It may change over a period of days, weeks, months, or even years, but one experiences similarly gendered phases in a same or similar order consistently.
History and Flag
The term was coined by Tumblr user publicmiddleschool on or before July 13, 2014, which is when the flag was created by Tumblr user pridearchive.[1] The circles in the flag are meant to represent the phases of the moon, and the colors used in the slivers of moon are the colors of the genderfluid flag out of order.
A simplified lunagender flag was created by Tumblr user pride-color-schemes on July 31, 2016.[2] Its color meanings are the same.
