Intragender is a gender modality under the cisn't umbrella describing an individual who, while not being cisgender, has a similar experience to that of cisgender individuals. Examples may include:
- Identifying partially with their assigned gender
- Identifying with a gender identity which is similar/comparable to which they were assigned
- Feeling that their gender identity is heavily influenced by their assigned gender.
Intragender individuals may experience genders that do not align with their assigned gender as well, though typically their intragender identities are more significant than their other identities or they want to emphasize their intragender identities.
The feminine version is intrafeminine. The masculine version is intramasculine.
History
The term is based on intrafeminine and intramasculine, properly coined on June 23, 2021 by Tumblr blog gender-resource.[1]
Etymology
The suffix "intra-" means "within," suggesting one's gender identity is "within" the same area as one's assigned gender.
