Hypoandrogenism or Androgen Deficiency is an intersex variation in which one has low androgenic activity within their body. It can affect both CTF and CTM individuals alike.[1][2]
In CTF individuals, hypoandrogenism can cause a loss of libido, decreased body hair growth, depression, insomnia, fatigue, vaginal vasocongestion, headaches, osteoporosis, and reduced muscle mass.[3]
In CTM individuals, hypoandrogenism can cause a loss of libido, impotence, infertility, shrinkage of the prostate, diminished masculinization, low muscle mass, insomnia, anxiety, depression, fatigue, vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes), headaches, and osteoporosis. They may also have microorchidism and/or a micropenis as well as have symptoms of aromatase excess syndrome.[4]
Causes
Hypoandrogenism can be caused by hypogonadism (both CTM hypogonadism and CTF hypogonadism,) or it can be caused by impairments of the hypothalamus and/or the pituitary gland. The impairments could be caused by tumors, trauma, surgery, autoimmunity, radiation, infections, toxins, drugs, and similar things. It can also be caused by old age.[5]
