A biromantic heterosexual is a person who is sexually attracted to the opposite binary gender or heterosexual but is romantically attracted to more than one gender or biromantic.
History
While the specific origin of the term is unknown, as part of the Split Attraction Model (SAM), biromantic heterosexual likely emerged into its current usage alongside other SAM terms in 2005 on the forum boards of the Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN). The first locatable use of the term is from 2010 on a forum on AVEN.[1]
As early as 2014, the term “bihet” has been used derogatorily towards bi-oriented people in heterosexual-presenting relationships, especially bi-romantic and -sexual women with men as partners.[2] As this derogatory term is also used online, biromantic heterosexual people, in particular biromantic heterosexual women and people misgendered as women, are demeaned by this slur, as well.
Flag
The first bisexual heterosexual flag was created by Tumblr user okaymightbecrazy on June 11, 2015.[3] The flag includes the heterosexual flag in the background, with four alternating white and black stripes, with a bisexual pride flag-themed heart in the middle.
