The term was created by Tumblr user portugayse on May 31, 2018.[1] The first girlby flag was created by Tumblr use beyond-mogai-pride-flags on August 9, 2018.[2] On August 15, 2018, beyond-mogai-pride-flags created an alternate girlby flag.[3]

On January 23, 2019, Reddit user technobaboo created the girlby-centered subreddit r/Femby.[4] On August 26, 2020, Reddit user scientific-communist created a femby flag based on the colors of the lesbian flag.[5] Reddit user Hotdog1352 created an alternate femby flag on February 3, 2021.[6]

    Demigirlby

Tumblr user imoga-pride coined the term demigirlby, also known as demigalby and demiwomanby, and created a flag for it on November 30, 2018.[7]

A demigirlby person is someone who is partially, but not entirely an girlby or non-binary woman. This may include a multigender person who is both demigirl and deminonbinary, monogender a person who feels their gender is a fusion of demigirl and deminonbinary, a person whose gender is some percent girl and some percent non-binary, a person whose gender has demigender components, or a genderfluid person who is fluid between demigirl and deminonbinary.

An alternate demigirlby flag was created by FANDOM user Reign of the Breadsticcs on March 25, 2021.
