Transpronominal (also known as Enantiopronominal) is the act of using pronouns different from the pronouns associated with one's assigned gender at birth or are uncommon for one’s assigned gender at birth. Transpronominal is not synonymous with transgender, as some trans people may still go by the pronouns associated with their assigned gender at birth. Additionally some cisgender people are transpronominal.
Transpronominal should also not be confused with crosspronominal or pronoun non-conforming, though the two may overlap, crosspronominal is based on gender identity, while transpronominal is based on one's assigned gender at birth. For example, A trans man who uses he/him pronouns is transpronominal, but is not crosspronominal. A cisgender woman who uses they/them pronouns would be transpronominal and crosspronominal. A trans woman who uses he/him pronouns would be crosspronominal but not transpronominal.
Transpronominal is the opposite of cispronominal.
History
The term and flag were created on Tumblr the blog beyond-mogai-pride-flags on February 16, 2021.[1] Enantiopronominal was suggested as alternative by the coiner, as (prior to the coining of this term) transpronominal was sometimes used as a synonym for crosspronominal. The flag has no confirmed meaning but used the colors of the transgender flag.
