Duesex is an identity in which a non-binary individual feels a connection to both the male and female sexes. It was originally meant to be an alternative term for "non-binary" and was created by transmedicalists as an exclusive label for those with dysphoria.
Alternatively, duosex can also refer to those who feel a connection to both the male and female sexes, regardless of gender or gender sonance.
History
The term was originally proposed by Reddit user Chapter-Salty on June 26, 2021.[1] The truNB subreddit was polled, and duosex/nullsex received the most amount of votes.[2] The term was later re-coined by Tumblr user mysticsnowstorm on August 16, 2021. It was defined as a "term for those who identify with male and female and/or would like to transition towards both, regardless of gender identity," with the addition that it could be used regardless of whether one experienced dysphoria.[3]
Flag
The duosex flag was created by Tumblr user mysticsnowstorm on August 16, 2021. Blue represents acceptance and inclusivity, white represents the variety of gender identities a duosex individual may have, and purple represents the combination of male and female.
The other duosex flag was created by Reddit user M3lonKat on August 29, 2021.[4]
