    The Coisaillean/Cliffgender Flag
The Coisaillean/Cliffgender Flag (no cliff image)
Alternate coisaillean flag by Reign of the breadsticcs

Coisaillean, or cliffgender, is a xenogender that is part of the Landform System. It describes a gender that feels hardened, elderlym and worn down, while still feeling full of thrill and fresh, like a worn down seaside cliff still blossoming with fresh plants as sea mists lap up against it. It could also feel rocky and harsh, yet also incredibly fresh[1], like a cliff overlooking the sea, with a green plant growing from one of its many crooks, or anything else related to cliffs. It can be a very specific feeling or visualization of a cliff, but visualizations can vary.

    History

Coisaillean was coined by Reign of the breadsticcs on April 4th, 2021[2], while cliffgender was coined on the same date by Unfunny person420[3]. Although these two genders are virtually the same, they were coined independent of each other. The terms can be used interchangeably or separately.

    Flag

Concept art for cliffgender was designed by Unfunny person420 on April 4th, 2021. It was made to better understand how coisaillean/cliffgender may feel for someone, though it does not describe it perfectly for everyone.

The flag was designed by Unfunny person420 on April 4th, 2021. It has eight stripes. The light brown stripe represents terrain, the dark brown stripe represents earth, and the black stripe represents the obscurity one might feel. The dark gray stripe represents the rocky feeling of coisaillean/cliffgender, the gray-blue stripe represents air/wind and the height of the cliff, and the blue stripe represents water, as the cliff is visualized to be by the seaside (though this does not have to apply to everyone who identifies with coisaillean/cliffgender). The green-blue stripe represents biology and the green stripe represents plants/wildlife that may grow on a cliff.

    Etymology

The name "coisaillean" stems from the Irish words for "seaside" and "cliff".

The term "cliffgender" is taken from the gender's focus on the image/visualization of a cliff.
