The term can be traced back to 2018, where it was used to describe non-binary dysphoria.[1] A flag for atypical dysphoria was first created by Tumblr user beyond-mogai-pride-flags on April 21st, 2019, who expanded the definition to include all non-normative forms of gender dysphoria.[2] Another atypical dysphoria flag was created by Tumblr user blood-moon-night-coining September 30th, 2023, who expanded the definition even more to include all forms of non-normative dysphoria, not just gender dysphoria.[3]
