Ante gender, not to be confused with antigender or the anti-gender movement, is a label for children being raised without an assigned gender. It is not a gender identity in itself, but a “placeholder” for individuals raised gender neutral. It could also be considered a gender modality.
Typically, children are raised as ante gender with the expectation that they will come out with their preferred pronouns and actual gender identity in childhood, and thus the ante gender label is only temporary.
Ante gender babies are sometimes referred to as theybies.
Etymology
The prefix ‘ante’ means ‘before’ or ‘preceding’; this refers to the idea that an ante gender child is ‘before’ gender.
History
Ante gender was coined by Ari Dennis on or before May 20, 2019.[1] They coined the term to describe their child, Sparrow, who was UAB.
