Tomboy, also known as mascgirl, is a term for gender non-conforming fingender and fiaspec people who present masculinely in some way. This often refers to clothing and external appearance, but can also sometimes refer to the way one acts, the way one communicates, what interests or hobbies one has, etc. This term has more to do with gender presentation than gender identity, but some tomboys may be mingender.
Similar terms include azurgirl and femil. Some sapphic or lesbian tomboys may identify as butch. The counterpart to tomboy is femboy.
Flag
It is unknown who created the flag. It was created as late as April 28, 2017. The light pink comes from the transgender flag. It stands for the feminine-aligned or woman-aligned gender, but has only one stripe because it isn't the most important aspect of this identity. Blue and brown represent masculinity and gender non-conformity. Brown specifically represents a masculine attitude, while blue represents a masculine appearance. It is on the outside of the flag because it is one of the first things people will notice about a tomboy, and it is the most important and distinct part of this identity. The white stripes represent transgender and non-binary tomboys.
The mascgirl flag was designed by Mod Hermy as late as January 19, 2018. The orange gradient represents fluctuations in femininity and neutrality. The purple gradient represents different intensities of masculinity.[1]
