Mallian (may·lee·uhn) is a term that describes queer attraction to people that are at least partially masculine. This term is can be used by anyone who is at least partially aligned with masculinity who is attracted to people who are at least partially masculine. This term is inclusive of anyone who wants to use the term that either identifies or presents as masculine. This includes:

    -       Women that present as masculine at least some of the time

    -       Non-binary people that identify as at least partially masculine at least some of the time

    -       Non -binary people that present as at least partially masculine at least some of the time

    -       Men of any gender presentation

Attraction to other masculine-aligned people is typically exclusive but doesn’t have to be. Users of this term can be attracted to any number of genders and don’t have to prefer masculinity.

The term is not intended to describe any one particular type of attraction (sexual, romantic, platonic, etc.) but can be used for whatever attraction form the user sees fit. It is not necessary to for a user to identify is Mallian in all forms of attraction that they experience. The label Mallian is not mutually exclusive of any other attraction label. The Mallian label is completely compatible with the split-attraction model.

    Flag

The Mallian flag consists of brown, red, orange, yellow and white. The brown stripes on the top and bottom of the flag are representative of the user of the label and the object(s) of their attraction. The other stripes in the flag are between them to represent the bond shared between the user and the object(s) of their attraction. This includes red – representing sexual and romantic attraction. Yellow – representing platonic and other tertiary attraction types. Orange – representing a blend of multiple types of attraction or just having attraction that is vague or fluid in nature. The use of the colour brown is due to it being a dark colour and also a neutral colour, therefore simultaneously representing masculinity and neutrality. The brown has a slightly yellow tinge to mimic a dark gold colour; the gold is intended to represent value you place on yourself and the object(s) of your attraction.

There is a chevron variation of the flag that mimics the queer chevron flag. This variation was of the flag was created to further connect the identity of Mallian to queerness.

Both flags were created by tumblr user ralph-filthy on 3rd of December 2021. [1]

    Etymology

The term is derived from the word “mammalian”, meaning “Any of various warm-blooded vertebrate animals of the class Mammalia, including humans, characterized by a covering of hair on the skin and, in the female, milk-producing mammary glands for nourishing the young". [2]
